I'm studying engineering in 3rd year w/c focus on lot of math how could i study w/out thinking about computers coz i keep going to my computer instead of stydying its like an addiction i want to stop coz if i dont stop something will get really wrong in my future, please what should i do to stop this before its to late? plzzzz ^_^

Don't toss the computer, you're going to need one whatever you end up doing. I don't know how you spend your time at the computer, but if it's not related to your studies get rid of the games, tunes and toys. Install and learn a computer programming language. I'd recommend an easy-to-learn one to start; my faves are Fortran, QuickBasic or simple C. Or Matlab if you can get a copy cheap. There's also a freeware version of something a lot like Matlab; try to find that. Work on learning how to program numeric solutions to math problems, one thing that computers do best. Work on plotting stuff, visualizing vector problems, doing transformations. (You'll need this kind of thing if you're going into robotics as another of your questions suggests.) Good luck (which is mostly hard work).


EDIT: The name of the Matlab-like free software is Octave. There are numerous download sources, including sourceforge.net, octave.org and the link 1 below. It may be a bit tricky since it was originally written for unix, but there are windows versions. More info at links 2 and 3.

Reply:This worked for me for a while: Install a weird OS such as Linux that can run office applications but not very many entertaining games. Knoppix ought to do the trick. It comes with OpenOffice, and it's very easy to use.
