Ax^2+bx+c formula...math help?
This formula is the quadratic standard formula for graphing a parabola (a U-shaped figure used to show the continual rate).
Do not confuse this formula with slope-intercept form (y=mx+b). The a doesn't stand for anything in particular, it will, however be used to find two other points and the vertex in order to graph the parabola.
bx is the variable coefficient and will be used to determine if your parabola will be facing upwards or will have a downward trend...it will also be used to skinny or fat the parabola will be (how much difference it is from the parent function y=bx^2). If it is negative, it will have a downward trend...positive will have an upward trend.
Remember how to find the vertex (highest or lowest point) of a parabola? y=-b/2a (also located in the quadratic formula if one looks close enough...so you should know this stuff from Algebra I)
Then, graph the vertex. Pick two points either below or above the vertex depending on what the coefficient b is in the bx portion of the standard formula.
The formula will typically be y=ax^2+bx+c
Therefore, pick an x-intercept and plug it in to find y...that's what I mean by pick two points...this way you will find a set of coordinates, not just points.

Not necessarily. Admissions officers might forgive mediocre grades freshman year, but you'll really have to shine from here on out. It also helps to do something really outstanding, like win a major academic prize, or be state champ in a sport, or produce your own play. Having exceptional standardized test scores helps, too. And don't forget that Harvard likes to have students from all over the country, so it might help if you live in a place that doesn't send a lot of people to Harvard, e.g Idaho or North Dakota or Mississippi.

Reply:As long as your parents are millionaires like George W. Bush's parents then you shouldn't have anything to worry about. If your parents aren't rich then you can always get a job at McDonald's.
Reply:well it depends on the academic rigor of your school, as long as you improve over the next three school years it should be OK, but Harvard because of it reputation can be more selective than other institutions so just hope you get amazing SAT scores and have As in all your other classes. The admissions counselors will take in to consideration the fact that you took an honors course but if you are not at a well renowned college preparatory school they most likely will not be so forgiving.

How hard would pre calculus be for a b and c student in math?
I am a B and C but mostly B student in math and i am taking pre calculus next year and i dont know if i can do it i need help!!!

I had calculus as a B/C student. I enjoyed this class more than I enjoyed other maths it made more sense to me and helped tie everything learned earlier together for me.

I have a degree in physics and in mathematics, and I was a B student in high school. I just never did homework and aced the test.
Just consider if it's worth it to you, and is it something you will need for college or your future
Reply:Depends if you're the graphical solver or numerical solver. I took Pre-Calc, ain't that much different from BC Calc. So if you plan to take Calc AB/BC after, then take Pre-Calc. Great prep. Hope that help.
